I've wasted too much time tonight YouTubing music artistes tonight (that time was supposed to have been spent studying), so for this blog post, I'm gonna be super lazy and just put up videos of random music I like or have just discovered.
Ed Sheeran - Hallelujah
This has to be my favourite cover after Jeff Buckley's. It's beautiful, and -- even better -- it's live. I'd seen Ed Sheeran's name around the Internet before, but only checked him out after I saw the music video of The A Team on TV. I really like that one too, it's an original song. Ying Hui's all excited that I'm YouTubing him, because she positively adores him. She's tagging me in all sorts of his videos on Facebook now. Uh-oh!
2Cellos - With Or Without You
These guys opened for Elton John when he had a show here, and the lady who did the concert review in The Star was raving about them in her article. At the time, I'd been itching for some new music, and went to check them out. Holy carp, they are good. I had no idea cellos were so versatile! One of their more popular covers is Smooth Criminal, which is amazing as well. Look how close they come to the edge of their fretboards!
Damian McGinty - Blue Christmas
In the spirit of Christmas, listen to that voice. Listen to it. I just did, and I'm a puddle of goo on the floor right now. Because, you know, he's in the US, and missing his family and friends and girlfriend in Ireland, and must've imagined spending Christmas without them to pull this off perfectly, which he did. It is so heartbreakingly beautiful. I should stop talking. (Be still, my heart.)
Glee cast - We Are Young
Yeah, another Glee one, but Damian and Glee aren't the same thing in my head, if that makes any sense at all. I love, love, love this number, and the reason why I didn't post the performance vid instead is that it doesn't have Santana's part of the song. The original is here, it's by a band called fun., with the full stop. It has a really weird video.
Macy Maloy - Fireflies
I finally found an acoustic cover of Fireflies that I actually like! I'd heard quite a few over the past year or two, and none of them were to my taste. A little while ago, I stumbled across this gem while checking out Cameron (from The Glee Project) and his girlfriend, Macy, and I'm glad I did. She's got such a lovely voice. Man.
Muse - The Resistance
Muse sometimes comes up with really weird-sounding songs that confuse me, but I love this one. Everything about it is perfect, just so. To be honest, I only happened to listen to it because Joel had it on his phone (everyone knows that 'if you leave your phone on the table, it belongs to everyone sitting at the table' college rule, right?) and I'd heard and loved the 2Cellos cover of it. That one's worth a listen too, for sure.
The idea of having a post with a lot of videos was so that I would just, you know, put them up and be done in under an hour. Unfortunately, I felt the need to say something for each one, and now it's one a.m. and I am kicking myself. Ah well, blogging's now more or less a once a week thing for me, so. Never mind.
Hope y'all like the songs!
P.S. Since we're on the topic of music, is anyone else going for Dashboard Confessional next year? Chris is doing a solo acoustic set here in Malaysia in February, and I am rather excited! February 22nd at KL Live, early bird tix are going at RM91 till the 22nd of January. See you there? :D
