Video editing

I am, and always have been, a bit of perfection a perfectionist. When I really care about something, I will work and work and work on it till everything is exactly right and it is the way I see it in my head, refusing to budge or take a break until I am finished. (This used to be an issue when it came to cleanliness back when I was a kid. My parents began to suspect it was OCD.)

No, we can't start now. Move your rook a little bit more to the left.

You can see how this is a bit of problem for my health. No water, no food, no sleep till I finish whatever it is I'm working on. No going to the toilet. No showering. No fulfilling any sort of basic need, because I am a bad ass workoholic.

Thankfully, this doesn't happen often -- I'd probably collapse or die of exhaustion/thirst/hunger. Last night, though, was the end of a three-day stint of this mania; I'd been working on my group's video for our Malaysian Studies project.

It seems that in my group of friends, I am the unofficial video editor. I did the video for our Moral Studies project too, as well as a short bloopers clip on it. Both were fun -- though incredibly tiring -- to do. (The former was an eight-minute video!)

I actually like video editing. It's a horribly daunting task at first, going through about an hour of footage to cram into a video only a few minutes long, but once you're through with that it gets a lot more fun. I find it helpful to sort all the raw footage into a few folders to get things organised; the clips that don't belong anywhere, you can delete. Then begins a whole lot of trimming, then arranging all the clips in order. Get your hands on some (unlicensed!) music, put in your subtitles (if necessary), and you're done!

Of course, it's much easier said than done. Timing is super important in trimming, inserting music and/or sound effects, and subtitles. It can take ages to get it right! But, you know, if you work hard enough, the end result will be worth your sleepless nights.

So I'm going to stop rambling and show you our Malaysian Studies video. Sorry in advance for the occasional pixelation -- Windows Movie Maker screwed the video up during publishing. If you think this is bad, you should see the one I have saved on my laptop. Stupid program. But anyway. Enjoy!
